Learning your music while driving in the car

The sun is coming out. Yeah!.....and UH OH! Usually when the sun comes out, especially here in Washington, everybody wants to take a break and enjoy the day by relaxing. However, when it comes to studying and practicing, this can create a major hurdle.

My challenge to everybody who is trying to continue their piano practicing during the summer IS, to practice while driving in the car. I'm not saying to do anything dangerous, and these are some of the options of what I mean:

1) Prior to driving, memorize the letters of the notes and sing them in the car. Then when you start practicing your song, you will already know which notes you are going to be playing! You can make it a game while in the car where you say one note and your child says the next.

2) Clap out the beats of your song. Either at stop lights, or have your child clap them out from the back seat.

3) Listen to your song. Again, listening to the song over and over can help tremendously.

I have done this with my daughter and it is amazing how much more confident she was the next time she's played the piano.

Best of ALL, if you are helping a child, they are most likely buckled in, so the wiggling will be limited and they will be able to focus better. :)

Here's an article for more helpful tips!

As many of you know, my favorite opera singer is Sumi Jo. I came across this really fun video of her singing. Enjoy!
